A little levity and positivity for your Friday commute... so, Carl and I took a walk through the Alki Beach neighborhood of West Seattle yesterday. We passed by a house with an entire extra back yard lot dedicated to preserving some huge tree overlooking a series of ponds.

The owner saw us peering over her fence and invited us over. We ended up spending an hour with her discussing the history of the tree, which is a 100+ year-old golden weeping willow and is also part of Seattle's Heritage Tree line-up.

We also discussed her endless supply of water to her cistern that comes from a stream flowing through her back yard, the complete history of all the fish that have made it and not made it in her ponds, and her excitement about being a part of the upcoming home and garden tour, which led to her most exciting subject of all: her bat guano! Oh my Lord, she got so excited. Had to tell us all about it. She puts it under the roses, under the bushes, in the flowers, under the trees. Pulled the box out of her garage and showed it to us and just ... let's just say she was crazy about her bat shit.

All in all, it was a wonderful visit with someone who was so excited and happy about creating a home around one of Seattle's unique pieces of natural history.
