When I was in college, I worked at a Chinese restaurant for 5 years.

Along with enough semi-healthy food to keep me svelt throughout my college career, I also enjoyed other posh bennies like learning the entire Spanish language from the guys in the kitchen, learning how to order almost anything off the menu in Mandarin, and best of all, having an endless supply of fortune cookies.

I popped those things open and absorbed their directives like they were going out of style. They're probably the reason I was all over the place in college -- it took me 14 semesters to graduate after changing my major about 9 times.

20 years later, I rarely visit a Chinese restaurant. When I do, it's an extra special occasion when the waiter brings me a fortune cookie. When I open it, I treat the message with great respect, allowing it to just sit there in front of me, and I give my mind permission to soak up the fact that this is someone's positive, uplifting energy being passed on to me via a pretty unorthodox channel.

So to all you wonderful fortune cookie soothsayers on the factory floor, thank you for all the good wishes and keep up the good work.
